1. What this policy covers

This policy describes the cookies and similar tracking technologies (collectively, "cookies") used on visualtracking.no and any other domain on which Odda Digital System publishes content related to the Visual Tracking Service. It accompanies our Privacy Notice, which describes how we process personal data more broadly.

This policy is published under § 2-7b of the Norwegian Electronic Communications Act (ekomloven, lov om elektronisk kommunikasjon) and Article 5(3) of the ePrivacy Directive as implemented in Norway.

2. What is a cookie

A cookie is a small text file that a website stores on your device through your web browser. Cookies let a site remember information about your visit (preferences, login state, analytics) across pages and between visits. Similar technologies (local storage, pixel tags, fingerprinting scripts) serve the same purpose and are treated here as cookies for clarity.

3. Categories we use

We classify cookies into three categories:

CategoryPurposeConsent required
Strictly necessaryMake the site work: routing, security, load balancing, your cookie-consent choice itselfNo (Article 5(3) ePrivacy: necessary for the service explicitly requested by the user)
FunctionalRemember your preferences (language, region) so you do not have to set them againYes, before being set
AnalyticsAggregate, pseudonymised statistics on how the site is used, to help us improve contentYes, before being set

We do not use advertising, retargeting, or social-media-tracking cookies.

4. Cookies in use

The following cookies may be set on your device when you visit our website.

4.1 Strictly necessary

4.2 Functional

4.3 Analytics — only set if you consent

NameProviderPurposeRetention
_gaGoogle Analytics 4 (Google Ireland Limited)Distinguishes unique visitors, with IP address anonymisation enabled2 years (Google default; we have not extended it)
_ga_<container>Google Analytics 4Stores session state for the Analytics property2 years
_gidGoogle Analytics 4Distinguishes users for a 24-hour analytics session24 hours

Google Analytics is configured with IP address anonymisation enabled (the last octet of IPv4 / last 80 bits of IPv6 are dropped before storage). Data sharing settings for Google products and benchmarking are disabled. Google's processing is described in policies.google.com/technologies/cookies.

5. Consent

When you first visit the website, you are presented with a cookie consent banner. The banner lists the categories (Strictly necessary, Functional, Analytics) and lets you accept, reject, or customise. Strictly necessary cookies are set regardless of your choice because they are required for the site to function (Article 5(3) ePrivacy exemption). All other cookies are set only after you give consent.

Your consent choice is stored in the cookie_consent cookie (Section 4.1) and remembered for 12 months. After 12 months, or sooner if our cookie inventory materially changes, we will ask again.

6. Changing or withdrawing consent

You can change your consent choice at any time by:

  • Clicking the Cookie preferences link in the website footer to reopen the banner
  • Clearing site data in your browser (this also clears the cookie_consent cookie, so the banner will reappear on your next visit)
  • Adjusting your browser's cookie settings to block third-party cookies or all cookies

If you withdraw consent for analytics cookies, the cookies already set will remain on your device until they expire or you delete them. Future analytics events will not be recorded.

7. Browser-level controls

All modern browsers let you view, manage, and delete cookies. Detailed instructions:

Some site features depend on functional cookies and may not work as expected if you block them.

8. Third-party processors

Cookies set by third parties (Section 4.3) involve the transmission of usage data to those parties for processing. The third parties are our Sub-processors for analytics processing — see the Sub-processor list for the full disclosure, including processing locations and transfer mechanisms.

9. Changes to this policy

If we add, remove, or change cookies materially, we will update this policy and ask for fresh consent through the cookie banner. The effective date at the top of this policy shows when the current version took effect.
